After the great Saturday that our Gracie Family had with the Kids Grading Ceremony, it’s time to introduce to our little students new Jiu-Jitsu techniques and positions, in order to keep them improving and developing their skills.
Our Instructors started the week teaching the basics principles of half-guard – also known in Portuguese as meia-guarda, half guard is a complex position in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
The definition of grappling guard requires that the bottom player (grappler with his back towards the mat) makes use of his legs to control the distance between himself and the guard passer (grappler on top), the half guard follows that same concept.
Besides the basics of half-guard, our instructors are also teaching how to not get squashed on the bottom and how to make frames. Know those principles it is extremely important as half-guard evolved into one of the most utilized positions in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
The following photo shows Owen & Chris teaching the kids this afternoon, during the class.
The Gracie Team will keep you update about the kids training and what they’re learning weekly, so… see you next time! 🙂
