Here is Gracie Humaita Sydney Introductory Booklet!
After you book your free trial, here is what you can expect when you step into Gracie Humaita Sydney Academy.
Congratulations on your first step to Gracie Jiu-Jitsu’s healthy lifestyle. Doing anything for the first time can be daunting but we will do our best to make you comfortable and able to make the most of this lifetime experience.
Arrive Early and Introduce Yourself
Especially on your first day, arrive 15 minutes earlier so you will have the proper time to introduce yourself at the reception, receive your Trial Uniform, and get the necessary instructions.
Show up in Regular Clothes and Shoes
You will be provided a sanitized and clean Jiu Jitsu Gi for your first TRIAL class. You just need to bring a bottle of water, a rashguard or a t-shirt, and some footwear.
Don’t Step on The Mats on your Shoes or Flip-Flops
Please, don’t wear your shoes or flip-flops on the mats. The reason for this is to prevent any bacteria to get on the mats and a sign of respect.
Similarly, the point of wearing flip-flops is to keep bacteria off of your feet when you walk around the bathroom, changing room, or other no-shoes-allowed areas of the gym. By removing shoes and flip-flops before stepping on the mats, you can limit the risk of infections.
Gracie Humaita Sydney Facilities
Gracie Humaita Sydney is proudly one of the best Martial Arts Academies in the world when the topic is infrastructure. The whole Academy is in a 600m2 area, being the mats on a 400m2 area divided into 3 mats. The rest of the area is occupied by the reception, changing rooms, and the Gracie Humaita Sydney Store.
How does the FIrst BJJ Class Looks Like?
It’s a time of your first contact with BJJ and we will make sure it’s unforgettable! The well-trained and worldwide qualified coaches will introduce you to a brief history of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the Gracie Family, they will also demonstrate the basic movements of Jiu-Jitsu like bridges, rolls and break falls to warm you up, and them they will finally demonstrate some drills. If you end up falling in love with BJJ – we are pretty sure you will – this moment will likely be a moment you look back with fond memories.
After the INTRO class, you are welcome to stay for the FOUNDATION class. In the FOUNDATION you will probably have no idea what is going on and will end up a bit tired. Don’t worry, we will focus on instructing you on the basics and will always take care of you. We know it’s a lot of information but the good thing is that you will pick it very quickly. Don’t strange if you dream about the class that night.
The specific details of each class vary considerably, but the average structure is probably going to include a warmup, drilling one or more techniques, and then some form of light sparring with resistance.
Making New and Good Friends
For us, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a lifestyle and we will spend as much as possible time at the gym. If you are looking to make new friends, joining Gracie Humaita Sydney will highly increase the chances of it happening. However, if you have kids or anything else to do at home and need to rush off the mats after the classes, that’s fine too.
The Gracie Humaita Sydney Family is composed of people of all ages (from 3.5 years old to 65), from different backgrounds, and different interests. But one thing in common, their love for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and interest in people. We look after each other.
How to Keep Hygiene?
Cleanliness is extremely important in being a BJJ practitioner. When you start BJJ, you will find that you spend a lot of time showering, washing, and drying your Gi’s, and organizing your gym wear in preparation for the upcoming classes. Coaches and Students are always aware if something is not where should be when talking about hygiene and cleanliness.
What to do after the class?
After your lesson, please get changed and hand back your TRIAL Uniform to our front desk staff. They will talk to you about our programs and membership options. For sure there will be on that fits to your routine and requisites.
Welcome to the Gracie Humaita Sydney Family and always remember:
“A Black Belt is a White Belt who never Quit.”
