Gracie Jiu-Jitsu: A Legacy of Evolution and Excellence
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is more than a martial art — it’s the result of centuries of refinement, philosophy, and global influence. Unlike other styles, it didn’t evolve from a single tradition. Its journey spans from India, through China and Japan, where Buddhist monks and samurai warriors shaped its early techniques based on leverage, balance, and body mechanics. Over time, these principles became the foundation of a strategic, intelligent system of self-defence.

The Gracie Connection
Jiu-Jitsu arrived in Brazil with Japanese fighter Mitsuyo Maeda, who taught the art to Carlos Gracie — the eldest son of a local diplomat who supported Maeda’s immigration. Carlos passed the knowledge to his brothers, including Hélio Gracie, who reshaped the art to suit his smaller frame. His innovations emphasised leverage, timing, and technique over strength — giving rise to what we now know as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
