Don’t cry FOUL- make sure you know what moves are legal and illegal on the mats and in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Gracie Sydney BJJ students Lee and Reme helped us put together this video of the most common technical fouls in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Technical fouls in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are considered ‘Severe Foul’ but not ‘Disciplinary Fouls’. While there are different technical fouls for each belt rank- these are techniques that certain levels of practitioners can do while other’s can’t- we made sure we covered fouls that are illegal for ALL belt levels in BJJ, kids and adults.

Technical fouls were created to ensure the safety of both parties whether they are competing or training on the mats. While knowing the technical fouls will help keep you and your partner safe and able to train in competition Technical fouls in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, more so than Disciplinary fouls are extremely important to know so that you don’t experience the unfortunate consequence of being disqualified immediately. Instead of the warning you receive with Disciplinary fouls, Technical fouls result in a ‘DQ’ or disqualification from a match and your bracket.
