Yesterday we celebrated International Women’s Day at Gracie Sydney with a wonderful Self-defense class conducted by highly skilled female instructors: Coach Anne Soares, Coach Maria Elisa, and Coach Saige Soares. The event turned out to be a huge success, with many women showing up to learn self-defense techniques and celebrate the spirit of womanhood.

WHY WOMEN SHOULD KNOW SELF-DEFENSE?

The class was an opportunity for women from the community to learn self-defense techniques, which is especially important considering the alarming statistics on domestic and sexual violence in Australia. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, one in six women has experienced physical or sexual violence from a current or former partner, and one in four women has experienced emotional abuse by a partner.

The atmosphere at the seminar was electric, with women from all walks of life coming together to empower themselves and each other. It was heartening to see so many women taking control of their safety and learning the skills to protect themselves from potential harm. The seminar was not just about physical techniques but also emphasized the importance of awareness, avoidance, and de-escalation techniques.

The success of the class was evident from the positive feedback received from the participants. Many women expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn self-defense techniques and the confidence it gave them. They also appreciated the supportive and empowering environment that Gracie Sydney had created, which made it easy for them to learn and practice the techniques.

In conclusion, the self-defense seminar was a great success, and it was heartening to see so many women coming together to learn and celebrate their strength and resilience. It was an inspiring event that showed how martial arts can be used not just as a means of physical fitness but also as a tool for empowerment and personal growth. The event serves as a reminder of the importance of empowering women and providing them with the tools to protect themselves in a world that can be unpredictable and dangerous.
