Winter is coming. Are you ready to keep training? Here are some substantial and motivational reasons to keep training in the gym even more now that heading to the beach isn’t looking as appealing!
Fat burning
– If you’ve got some extra fat you’d like to burn it turns out that the falling temperatures will help you shed it. Calorie burn can be higher in colder temperatures because the body has to expend energy to stay warm.
Mood and mental elevation
– As the darkness creeps more into our days our levels of serotonin (that feel-good brain chemical) begin to fall, often leading to winter blues or even SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). Cardio work will not only up your serotonin, but it is four times more effective at reducing symptoms of depression compared with any antidepressants. In addition all workouts produce endorphins (another feel good brain chemical) to significantly help relieve anxiety and depression.
Immune system benefits
– Staying active during the winter months is also your best defence against winter colds and flu as exercise boosts your immune system. Research has found you can cut your risk of catching that man-flu that’s going around by 20-30{92f1572a082317c0570d27e962ee347172df3d87d051e40ee6d5e73ba38ddde9} with regular cold-weather training.
Boosted athleticism
– Natural cold weather conditions challenge your body to become stronger both mentally and physically. Colder air means more air resistance and heavier air to push through which all make your body work harder. In addition to this the extra layers (or rashies, tights and heavier Gis) you’ll be wearing mean more resistance and more weight during training. The end result is a boost to your fitness and endurance levels, strengthen the heart, lungs, and cardiovascular system, improving your overall health and well-being.
