Aug 2007 – Xande Ribeiro – Half Guard Sweep

Here Prof. Xande teaches one of his devastating half guard sweeps.

Step 1

Xande has the open guard controlling Luke’s ankle and lapel.

Step 2

Using his hook and collar grip, Xande forces Luke to put his hands on the mat to keep his balance.

Step 3

Xande uses this opportunity to switch to a half guard with Luke’s leg on his shoulder, a very strong position for Xande.

Step 4 – 6

Using his legs and his grip on Luke’s ankle, Xande sweeps Luke Back and takes the top position, scoring 2 points, and is in a good position to start passing.
